Moose Creek Feed Yard, a division of Moose Creek Red Angus, started as a need for a place to feed our own ranch calves. It is a complete background yard that feeds roughly 2 200 head each feeding period. The cattle placed are normally bought locally and fed a light ration to gain from 1.25 lbs/day to 2.5 lbs/day. A balanced barley, silage and hay/straw ration designed by our consulting nutritionist is fed. In addition to a strong vaccination protocol, every animal entering the feed yard is persistently infected (PI) tested for BVD. The incorporation of this process has drastically improved pen health and lowered health costs and pull rates.

The large portion of the cattle fed is custom with the majority of these being retained ownership of producer owned calves. The balance of the placed cattle is owned by both local and international owners with the latter being exported from the feed yard south.

Moose Creek Feed Yard also grazes steers and heifers for customers. Pasture sizes are dependant on numbers and both sexes can be handled. The stockers are summered on tame and native pasture that is rotationally grazed using electric fence. The cattle have access to fresh water through a shallow water line and portable 600 gallon water troughs. The stocking rates and availability are both weather and moisture dependant.
