The Feedyard

Moose Creek Feedyard, a division of Moose Creek Red Angus, was started when we needed a place to feed our own ranch calves. It quickly grew, becoming both a background yard and a finishing lot. The majority of the cattle placed are locally sourced, and fed a balanced ration of barley/corn, cereal/corn silage, distillers byproduct, hay/straw and supplement. Our rations are designed and monitored by our consulting nutritionist. A strong vaccination protocol and aggressive bunk management are keys to our success.

A nearly half of the cattle are on a custom fed basis, with the majority being producer owned/raised cattle. The balance of the cattle are owned ranch calves as well as purchased stock from many of our existing bull customer’s herds. Some are wintered lightly and send to grass for the yearling market, while others are finished and sold locally and to the domestic and international fed cattle markets.

We are one of very few trained Verified Beef Producer (VBP) feedyards in Canada. We are also strong supporters of the traceability movement and have all of the calves enrolled on the Beef Information Exchange System (BIXS).
